A hiker who was trapped deep inside an active volcano for four days tragically died before she could be rescued, family members have confirmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Juliana Marins, 26, from Brazil, was with a group on Saturday (21 June) and hiking<\/a> near the active volcano Mount Rinjani<\/a>, on the island of Lombok in Indonesia, when she fell off a ‘cliff’.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rescuers heard her screams for help and drone footage spotted her still alive in a crater, but when a team went out to retrieve her, they could no longer find her<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the latest update, it has been reported that the hiker has sadly died of her injuries<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A social media<\/a> post from her family read: “Today, the rescue team managed to reach the place where Juliana Marins was.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“With great sadness, we inform you that she did not survive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We remain very grateful for all the prayers, messages of affection and support that we have received.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Juliana’s death has been confirmed by Brazilian former minister Tereza Critsina, who wrote on X [translated]: “The entire Brazil cheered and prayed that the rescue would arrive in time to save the young woman from Niter\u00f3i, Juliana Marins, alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Unfortunately, they could not save her. Very sad. Our condolences to her family and friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“And may the Brazilian government, through Itamaraty, demand an investigation of the facts and the punishment of those responsible in Indonesia. In practice, Juliana was left behind twice: on the dangerous trail and after she fell off the cliff.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Juliana had been hiking on Saturday when she became trapped (Instagram\/@ajulianamarins)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trekking company Visit Mount Rinjani released a statement earlier this week, confirming that a hiker fell from the trail and said it was waiting for news<\/a> from authorities of Juliana’s condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It said: “It has been two days since the incident of a hiker falling on the summit trail of Mount Rinjani. The desperate cries for help heard at the scene still echo in the minds of many and have drawn deep sympathy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“As of now, we are still waiting for an official statement from the authorities and the rescue team, who continue to work in challenging conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We sincerely hope the search efforts lead to positive news and that the hiker is found safe.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nikolas Osman, a spokesman for the East Lombok Police, also added: “While heading to the summit of Rinjani on the way to the Cemara Tunggal area, the victim experienced fatigue and the guide at that time advised her to rest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Then the five guests in the tour group were taken by the guide to continue the journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
